Like most fans of science fiction the last few decades, I was a fan of Leonard’s Mr. Spock. He had many other roles, he was a character actor after all, but to millions or perhaps billions he was and will always be our friend Mr. Spock.

By all accounts he was one the friendly ones, the good ones. I like that he seems to have respected the fans as well. He could have taken his bow years ago but instead continued to do the little things, like lending his iconic voice to various projects or reprising the role of Spock in the reboot of the film franchise. You know, little things like that.

I bet he never thought back in the late 1960’s that Star Trek would be there for the rest of his life…but it is fitting. He gave and the fans have always given back. Just look at the outpouring of remembrances and above all the respect from all around the world.

Rest in Peace, you will be missed.

Well, it had to be done. Moby’s! has moved it’s hosting away from GoDaddy as of last night and moved over to Bluehost.

This was necessary due to a ‘connection lost’ error every time the admin tried to do anything on the site. Basically…lag. A lot of it too. So, the domain is still GoDaddy for a couple more years, but the site itself lies elsewhere.

It was not an easy move, either. First, we tried GoDaddy’s 3rd gen CPanel hosting but that actually made it worse, breaking most of the links on the site. Thankfully a good hit with the ‘search and replace’ plugin fixed that about 10 minutes ago.

Then there was the broken databases. That was saved by a clone of the site just happening to still exist..still, almost lost about 2/3 of the posts. Yikes!

So I said to myself, “Self’,” I said, “that there’s enough bites at the apple for the daddy…let’s look elsewhere.” And BlueHost is the top recommended host by WordPress itself and they had a nice discount going.

This is the second time I have moved the site, not bad for a total noob.

But, so far so good. All seems quiet. I am sure I will still manage destroy the site one day.

bizmadickerson20140424_0I’ve never done a beer review here on the blog, so that might tell you just how good this beer is.

Icy Bay IPA from Alaskan Brewing Co. is a true find. It has an intense, pronounced hop flavor that really hits just the right limit on flavor. It is a bit intense without being too much so and lacks that annoying ‘high taste’ that comes from many small brewery offerings. Icy Bay is a great India Pale Ale.

Live Life Alaskan.”

This being my first beer review (more of a recommendation than a review), I will likely come back and expand it as I do more of these. And I am going to need some ratings system too…

Moby is a big fan of Mike Rowe, the former host of TV’s Dirty Jobs. To say he is down to earth and has a great head on his shoulders is an understatement. The man should be elected to office, but we don’t deserve him.

He has a foundation, mikeroweWORKS, that gives full scholarships to youths willing to work hard and learn a trade. There are literally millions of jobs in this country, the USA, that are high paying but go unfulfilled due to a lack of trained, qualified professionals. And Mike is trying to help America and young people by providing training, all expenses paid. A great American. Continue reading »

Hard to believe another year has gone by.

Moby has not been blogging much this year. Sure there was that short spurt a few months back about that thing. That was great. But mostly, this has been a quiet year. I blame Facebook.

If you read this blog, you know I like the zombiefication of media about as much as Eric Cartman likes hippies, dude. And nothing creates more zombies online than Facebook. But I resolve next year will be more. Not better, but more.

I mean, what’s the use of having a blog, a platform, if you don’t use it…to post meaningless and uninteresting opinions about stuff? And things, or something. So that is what I see for Moby’s next year. I plan to write more about comics, games, TV, etc. Until I get bored of it, of course. Or something.

Anyways, I did plan to recommend a last minute gift idea this year, like I did last year. Oh, that was such a great post. It was interestingly formatted, funny…it was a good post. But it was also from 2013, so it makes sense. If that same post was from 2014 it would have sucked, I know, right? But I just cannot get inspired enought to suggest anything this year.  Continue reading »
