SWBIA2

Ever since I first heard about this idea on Kickstarter, I’ve been getting updates regularly from Chris Wall of BIA. I was informed when they would be available, when they were ready, after they shipped...this has been a great company to do business with. Continue reading »

300px-Warblade_Endangered_Species_Vol_1_2Today’s post is a nice splash page by penciler Scott Clark and inker Sal Regla. This one comes from Warblade: Endangered Species # 2, page 8. This is a very nice example of the kind of art being pumped out of the various studios over at Image Comics for a long time.

What is noticeable right away is the strict style of inking. I knew that this was a page from an Image book as soon as I saw the inking style. It seemed like nearly all the artists coming up through the ranks over there had that same look to their work. The style alone was such a dead giveaway that I had some idea of what the collectability of the piece was right off the bat.

It is, of course, 11×17 on Image Comics board. Continue reading »

A huge thanks to James Lynch of Hero Universe Comics for sharing this nice scan of Bombshell with us. You can click on the picture for a much larger version.

There is also a great 5 page ‘Making Of’ at the end Bombshell #1 where writer/creator James Lynch explains how the comic came to be. It’s a very informative write-up, covering costume development, publishing, and finding artist Santiago Espina.

Bombshell #1 has been selected as Moby’s inaugural Digital Pick for FCBD. You can download issue #1 free here, and please be sure to have a look at the Kickstarter as well.

BombshellWell, the annual Free Comic Book Day is upon us once again, and I’ve got a suggestion for a free comic for you! In case you have never heard of FCBD, here’s the scoop:

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores.

I’ve chosen Hero Universe Comics Bombshell #1 to be Moby’s inaugural Digital Pick for FCBD. There are three issues in the series, and you can get the first one for free right hereThere are so many indie comics out nowadays, and many of them are noteworthy, but I wanted to pick something from the crowd that most readers would enjoy.

If you collect comics you have probably imagined what it would be like to wake up and have a superpowers, eh? Then what? You have these superpowers, but how do you become a superhero? That’s sort of the premise behind Bombshell.

This pick is in honor of the Bombshell #1 Convention Exclusive Edition Kickstarter going on right now; more info on that is at the bottom of this post. Continue reading »

GripsCollection

Moby had a good day today while in Massachusetts thanks to eBay comics wholesaler Gary Dolgoff Comics. The shop is run out of a ‘loft’ style 4-story near Springfield and they were quite helpful when I arrived to pick up a great set of Grips comics I spotted on eBay; a Grips Mega-Set if you will.

Unfortunately I had to run and little time to loiter and bug Rob (or the rest of the staff), but I did manage to learn that the shop ships A LOT of comics and prefers to sell sets and runs. The long boxes on pallets awaiting sorting testified to the volume and selection. Okay, I was a bit impressed, but managed not to geek out.

The Grips set I picked up was a bargain at under $1 per book. It contained 26 mostly high-grade comics including full runs of Grips V. 1&2, Grips Adventures, Grips Special #1, and a copy of GMC Action #5 for good measure. 26 books for $23…I almost felt guilty.

Gary Dolgoff Comics is an eBay seller, so there’s no need to be near Massachusetts to get yourself a great deal too. Recommended.
