Moby’s! is proud to share another original commission by an original Silverwolf/Greater Mercury artist! This beautiful piece comes from celebrated illustrator and writer Phil Hester.

Mr. Hester got his start at Silverwolf, drawing several issues. Unfortunately, only two were published (‘Port #1 & #2) before Silverwolf closed it’s doors.

Mr Hester was very nice, even answering a few questions about breaking in with Silverwolf Comics and such. But first, here it is…

I was with Silver in the beginning…”

-Neill Brengettsey

StechMock2Artist Neill Brengettsey, aka paime (Pay Me the artist) was a busy guy about the time Silverwolf Comics got started. Although he was never published by Silverwolf Comics, he worked on several titles including Stech, Guillotine, and The Deadly Dungeoneer. And thanks to the generosity of Mr. Brengettsey, Moby’s! has the original pages to prove it.

Neill’s unpublished Silverwolf art…

Still, there is enough here to know that Neill was ready for his shot, it is a real shame he was not published at the time. His work still stands up after all this time, and the quality in evidence is certainly better than what later became the average for Silverwolf art.

ALotofArtA quick post today, to share with you a bit of ‘B-Side’ artwork by former Silverwolf artist Neill Brengettsey.

I am working on a series of follow up posts to the excellent interview with Neill that was posted some time ago. That interview came with a nice stack of unpublished art, page after page that was meant for Silverwolf but was ultimately never used. You can read why in the interview.

On the back side of many of the pages Neill sent are doodles, practice or concept drawings, etc. I just wanted to share a couple of them with you, especially since I saw this first ‘B-Side’ I want to share. Continue reading »

Untitled2A while back I had a commission piece done by Roman (which was posted here on Moby’s) and I have been meaning to interview him about his time working for Greater Mercury Comics, but never got around to it until recently.

Roman Morales III was published in Assassin Force #2 and in the Grips Special #1 by GMC, as well as the portfolio artwork for the for the character Edge. He has also worked on several other titles over the years for various publishers, including titles like The Lynch MobThe 10th Muse, and even an issue of the X-men.

He was a police officer for about a decade and a half, and is currently a starring member on Mun2′s spanish-language bounty hunter reality show Fugitivos De La Ley Los Angeles (Fugitives Of the Law).

Moby’s – How did you come to work for Silverwolf/Greater Mercury?

Roman – I met Chris Silver at my first comic con in I believe 1989-90, I showed my portfolio to over 30 companies and got shot down big time, Chris took a look at my work and said he had some work I could do for him if interested, I jumped at it. Continue reading »

When Morganza recently mailed Moby’s the artwork for his recent Grips commission, he included a little something extra…a photocopy of (what would have been) the first page of issue #2 of The Last Wild Bitch.

As always, you can click on the image for a larger version.

It is always a blast to see unpublished SW/GMC related pages. Big thank you to Morganza for sending this along.

You can read more about The Last Wild Bitch [Here], and check out his excellent Grips artwork [Here] and [Here].
