DESPJudging by the comic book projects populating Kickstarter, I am starting to see something pretty cool. I could be wrong, but I have hope that the whole Vampire and Zombie obsession is almost over. Seriously, enough already…what the heck is it with zombies anyway?

So, that’s the good news. The interesting thing is what I see replacing them: Steampunk. Yeah, it still falls into that whole emo/goth ‘alternative’ like the zombie stuff; but I’ve about had it with the ubiquitous obsession with all things undead. The Steampunk concepts seem pretty cool too, especially in comparison. They are ‘techie’, a bit sci-fi, and best of all…no frickin’ corpses! Yup, I prefer my entertainment media without the undead walking around…or at least fewer of them than we have had the last few years.

There are a few Steampunk comic projects on Kickstarter right now actually, here’s a quick round up:

Oz2

Straight out of Free Comic Book Day comes a continuation of the critically acclaimed steampunk journey through the world of Oz.

Oz2This one is my favorite of the three. It’s quite an original take on the world of Oz and looks really interesting. So far there’s a The Steam Engines of Oz Trade Paperback (TPB) containing the Free Comic Book Day edition and Issues 1 – 3 (four chapters in all), and the Kickstarter is for an ALL NEW story, an 80 page graphic novel that follows after the events in the already completed TPB.

There’s still 7 days left in the funding period, and they are about $1K short of the $7,500 goal at the moment, but I’m certain their going to make it. The art looks really good and the rewards for the lower pledge levels include the entire story (TPB and GN) in digital formats, so you can help make this happen and get a good reward as well.

Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether Vol. 1

LPCollecting the first five chapters of the Lady Sabre steampunk-adventure webcomic by Greg Rucka and Rick Burchett.
Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether, Volume I, is the first collection of the strips – or more precisely, “screens” – published on the website www.ineffableaether.com. This is a 192-page hardcover collection that covers the first five chapters of our epic, plus bonus content, and is the first part of what will ultimately comprise “The First Book of Sabre.”

This campaign exists to fund the Exclusive Kickstarter Edition of this trade.

This one is well funded already, and looks great. It’s the usual web-comic coming to Graphic Novel Kickstarter, but promises to be top-shelf quality in it’s presentation.
LPB
The final book is to be a 192 page premium full color hardback, laid out in “Landscape” orientation, with heavy paper and a foil-stamped case.

It is really nice to see the quality of the rewards on this one; it says a lot of how much the creators appreciate the fans.

There’s still 8 days left on this one if you would like to jump on board.  Definitely worth a look. You can read the comic online from the beginning at ineffableaether.com as well.

Dirigible Days: 998

We had a wonderful experience filming the Dirigible Days web series…the adventure continues, and we still have more story to tell. So, we’re bringing the next chapter to life in the form of a graphic novel.

Okay, a little late on this one perhaps, only 3 days left. The good news is that the funding has been reached! Of course, now there are stretch goals to be had (aren’t there always?).

The Dirigible Days: 998 Graphic Novel will take place one year after the events in the five-part, Live-Action web series that was funded through a previous Kickstarter. All five episodes are currently available on Youtube.

There are some cool rewards for this project as well; T-shirts, Steampunk medallions and medals, music, and more.

Here is the first episode of Dirigible Days, Enjoy!

You can check them out on YOUTUBE or FACEBOOK as well.

DESPF

It’s too bad Dr. Evil doesn’t really exist; at least then the undead would have ‘frickin’ laser beams’ on their heads, right? Now I’m wondering what a Steampunk Dr. Evil and Austin ‘Danger’ Powers would be like. Meh, if Steampunk takes over like the Vampre/Zombie stuff did, I’ll probably get my wish and find out.
