So Many Things Are Wrong With This

Even setting aside the religion and politics, is it cool to be posting emails from people donating to your project just to make fun of them? How is that not a dick move? No seriously, in what universe it this acceptable?

And make no mistake, it was the religious undertones that Terry was mocking, he made that quite clear a bit later in replying to his own post, saying:

unnamed (2)

Gee, Terry sure seems open to a conversation on respecting religion, eh? What would He do indeed, Terry. Indeed. So how did Axanar like his posting the donor email and all? Lets go ask them!

Someone Please Tell Alex Peters That I shared His Email

Here is Alec’s response to Terry’s posting of the donor email. I’ve tightened it up, and redacted his actual email address, etc. Note the long and very legal ‘CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE’ at the top. Basically, Axanar can post your emails, but hands off theirs!

Funny thing is it’s that very notice that compels me to share this with you, the sheer hypocrisy of responding to a complaint about a shared email with that header and then saying in effect…well look for yourself:

CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE

This email transmission, and any documents, files or previous email messages attached to it may contain information that is confidential or legally privileged. If you are not the intended recipient, or a person responsible for delivering it to the intended recipient, you are hereby notified that you must not read this transmission and that any disclosure, copying, printing, distribution or use of any of the information contained in or attached to this transmission is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. The contents of this email also may not be shared or republished to third parties in any form by the recipient without the prior written consent of Axanar Productions.

If you have received this transmission in error, please immediately notify the sender by telephone or return email and delete the original transmission and all attachments without reading or saving in any manner.

I am sorry you are upset.  Diana and I both reviewed the post and frankly, since Terry did not attribute it to you, we find nothing wrong with his posting something, that he clearly found a bit absurd.

If he attributed it to you I would agree 100% with you, but people do this all the time.  You hear something absurd or funny or ridiculous and you tell others.  Nothing different here and nothing that identifies you in any way.

We are sorry you won’t be donating, but appreciate your business in the past.

Sincerely,

Alec

For the record, it was not my email that was shared by Terry, and at no time did I indicate so to Alec or Terry, Alec simply assumed this is the case. Notice they are sorry I am upset, and that I will not be donating…neither is an actual apology because Alec doesn’t understand what is wrong here.

So it is OK to post a donor email and mock it, so long as you don’t attribute the email to a particular donor.

Everyone got that?

hater

This whole thing definitely made me one of those Axanar ‘Haters’™, but I did not blog about it. The problem at the time was not exclusive to Axanar, but to many Trek Fan series: the fanboys.

Problem was whether or not your average Trek fan film enthusiast would care about such things happening came down to whether or not the production at issue was in their good graces or not. If they liked Axanar, they could do no wrong, end of story. And so it went with other productions…no one was really interested in stuff like this, despite all the talk online about IDIC and so on.

Make no mistake, there’s quite a bit of nastiness out there against conservative values, even in Trekland.

And so I did not write about it, just put it away and added Axanar to the naughty list and went on about my day.
