McVigilSiggyLast summer I was fortunate to meet and interview former Silverwolf Comics artist Dane McCart. He was very nice, and had a lot of insight into the history of the company and what it was like to work for Kris Silver way back around 1986 or so.

He also had something I was looking for desperately: Original Silverwolf Art. Two published covers (Eradicators #3 and #4) and one unpublished cover. It was a very good day.

So while showing me these covers and telling me about working with Tim Vigil on the cover for The Eradicators #3, he mentions another piece they did together and pulls out one more, oversized piece…’Vampire’.

You can click on the picture below to see a much larger version:

The artwork is oversized, larger than 11×17, so this is from a photograph, not a proper scan.

Dane noted (with a smile) that there was not quite as much blood when he pencilled the piece…but was not shocked that there was more after Vigil had inked it. This was to be the cover or opening page to a story; the Vampire is found feeding by someone who is coming up on him, holding up a cross (note the cross’ shadow on the vampire’s head).

This was something done between two drawing buddies, not meant for any publisher or such. And also worth noting is the date, 1986. This was when Tim Vigil was still working at Silverwolf Comics and drawing ‘Grips’ …very, very early work in his career.

Had this one for a while, about time I posted it. I hope to find more like it in the future.

Thanks again to Dane McCart for sharing. More to come…
